Why support the women of southern La Libertad, El Salvador?

Rural women in El Salvador, especially in the municipalities of La Libertad Costa, East, and South, face multiple challenges: high levels of poverty, lack of access to land, scarce resources for farming, and strong vulnerability to climate change. These conditions undermine their food security, economic autonomy, and quality of life.

In addition, many of these women live in contexts of inequality and gender-based violence, with limited access to information about their human rights, the prevention of gender-based violence, and civic participation. This restricts their ability to defend themselves, make decisions about their own lives, and fully contribute to the development of their communities.

Despite these difficulties, rural women are key actors in food production, environmental care, and the social fabric of their communities. Therefore, it is urgent and necessary to strengthen their capacities, provide them with comprehensive training in human rights, health, participation, and sustainable agriculture, and create diversified community production systems for staple grains, vegetables, and poultry (gardens) with an agroecological approach that allow them to improve their economy, nutrition, and organization.

You can support one woman’s garden production by donating $750, or two women by donating $1,500.

What the funds are needed for:
Seeds for staple grains and vegetable seedlings; supplies and materials to make organic repellents; materials for poultry coops (laying hens); and the purchase of laying hens and their feed.
