The CRIPDES University House is a project made possible thanks to the solidarity and cooperation of Paul and Sharon Kendall. Since 2006, through the SHARE foundation, they have benefited more than 60 young people from the CRIPDES regions: San Vicente, northern San Salvador, La Libertad, and Chalatenango, with study scholarships so that young leaders from rural communities can fulfill their goal of completing a university degree.
On June 24, 2023, the CRIPDES University House opened its doors, a transformative space that now accommodates 17 young people from rural areas. This space in San Salvador has become a hub for their university or technical studies, a testament to the impact of your support.
Several of the young people who are in the University House who started their classes at 7:00 in the morning had to leave at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning to board the transport that takes them to the main street and then the public transportation to San Salvador; in another case, the young people finish class at 8:00 at night and have to leave a few minutes before class to board the last bus that takes them to their municipality and then wait for a ride or walk home. On the other hand, housing rent in San Salvador is between $200.00 and $250.00, a rental amount that makes it difficult for young people to continue their studies in San Salvador.
For the 17 young people to have their scholarship to remain in the University House for a year, payment of all services and maintenance must be guaranteed. This is why with your donation it will be possible to maintain the stay of young people in San Salvador. You can support one youth for one year with a donation of $1,548.00 or a monthly donation for one youth for $129.00. You can also support up to 5 years, which is the total time of the university degree.
Over the past 40 years, we have supported hundreds of students in their educational journeys. Their high graduation rates and dedication to their communities are a testament to the transformative power of education. Today, many are teachers, social workers, nurses, agronomists, business administrators, and accountants, contributing to local and national organizations. They are not just success stories but also role models for the next generation in their communities.
